3 Principles of Importance for the General Assembly

The Role of The Vice Chair

For the Church of God in Christ General Assembly, as for any deliberative body, Board or Council, the Vice Chair is a position interstitial to the operation of that body. One who serves by Election of the body, but under the direction of the Chair. The Vice Chair must be a team player, at once both a “second man”, who knows how to “hold the ladder” for the Chair, while at the same time operating with the experience and the commitment of a leader in their own right. The Vice Chair must conduct themselves with proficiency in carrying out assignments and mandates at the directive of the Chair but must be prepared to stand in for the Chair at any time that need, circumstance, or the Rules of the Assembly may require. A key point of preparedness is found in the Vice Chair role to step in and function as the Chair, in the absence or inability of the Chair to fulfill the duties as required by the Constitution of the Church of God in Christ and the Rules of Operation of the General Assembly.
